چکیده

With recent advances in Electroencephalogram (EEG) signal processing and biomedical instrumentation, brain machine interfaces are used for rehabilitation of people suffering from neuromuscular disorders. This paper presents a novel method employing Hierarchical classifier using optimised Neural Networks to classify left-hand movement, right-hand movement and word generation using EEG signals. One of the most important components of brain computer interface (BCI) is feature extraction of EEG signals. Power spectral density (PSD) is used for feature extraction from EEG signals. The proposed pre-processing and reconfiguration of PSD samples make them more discriminative & yield appropriately organized feature vectors. The adaptation of network weights using Comprehensive Learning Particle Swarm Optimization (CLPSO) is proposed to improve the performance of Neural Network (NN). Further, the two level hierarchical neural network is used to enhance the discriminative property of the features and hence better classification accuracy is achieved. Results are verified on BCI benchmarking database as well as our own experimental database. Results obtained using the proposed methods are compared with other contemporary methods such as Linear Discrimination

Risk Factors and Prognostic Significance of Retropancreatic Lymph Nodes in Gastric Adenocarcinoma

Background. The studies on risk factors and metastatic rate of retropancreatic (number 13) lymph nodes in gastric adenocarcinoma were few and the results were still controversial. The aim of this study was to elucidate risk factors and prognostic significance of number 13 lymph nodes in gastric adenocarcinoma. Method. From January 2000 to December 2011, 114 patients who underwent gastrectomy wi...

Cell-Based Delivery of Interleukin-13 Directs Alternative Activation of Macrophages Resulting in Improved Functional Outcome after Spinal Cord Injury

The therapeutic effects of mesenchymal stem cell (MSC) transplantation following spinal cord injury (SCI) to date have been limited. Therefore, we aimed to enhance the immunomodulatory properties of MSCs via continuous secretion of the anti-inflammatory cytokine interleukin-13 (IL-13). By using MSCs as carriers of IL-13 (MSC/IL-13), we investigated their therapeutic potential, compared with non...

The synthetic retinoid 13-cis-retinoic acid (13-cis-RA), prescribed for the treatment of severe nodular acne, has been linked to an increased incidence of depression. Chronic treatment studies in rodents have shown that 13-cis-RA induces an increase in depression-related behaviours and a functional uncoupling of the hippocampus and dorsal raphe nucleus (DRN). Changes in the number of serotonine...

On the computation of Hermite-Humbert constants for real quadratic number fields

We present algorithms for the computation of extreme binary Humbert forms in real quadratic number fields. With these algorithms we are able to compute extreme Humbert forms for the number fields Q( √ 13) and Q( √ 17). Finally we compute the Hermite-Humbert constant for the number field Q( √ 13).

Interleukin-13 and -4 expression in the central airways of smokers with chronic bronchitis.

The aim of this study was to determine whether the T-helper 2-type cytokines interleukin (IL)-13 and -4 are involved in mucus hypersecretion, the hallmark of chronic bronchitis (CB). Surgical specimens were examined from 33 subjects undergoing lung resection for localised peripheral malignant pulmonary lesions: 21 smokers with symptoms of CB, 10 asymptomatic smokers (AS) and two nonsmokers with...

Trisomy 13 correlates with RUNX1 mutation and increased FLT3 expression in AML-M0 patients.

Of 52 AML-M0 patients studied, 16 presented a RUNX1 mutation (30.8 %) and 8 carried a trisomy 13 (15 %). We found a strong correlation between trisomy 13 and RUNX1 mutations, i.e, 7 out of 8 cases with trisomy 13 carried a mutation in RUNX1 (87.5 %, p<0.00056). Trisomy 13 patients with a RUNX1 mutation showed a 4-fold higher expression of FLT3 mRNA compared to controls, and in a selected number...
